Finishing and Starting....

That's what I have been up too lately.. Finishing one thing and starting another.....frequently..... before I'm finished I find myself starting multiple new things....which causes all sorts problems with my time not to mention the cluttered chaos which my studio has become...but of course... I eventually finish each project, and of course the stuff gets picked up and organized.. and then...of course it starts all over again... I guess the creative process is like that..like a whirlwind it takes over your life and senses and you can't help but go with its flow...and enjoy the ride...

I have been busy walking on our beaches, collecting special pieces of driftwood each telling their special story..weathered woods in grey, taupe and cream..some sun bleached..others dark with ragged crevices which once were homes for sea creatures...every piece is different..not one is alike just like fingerprints...individual and unique..with thier own story.

I never really looked at driftwood before until I started collecting and using it for my driftwood Mirrors....now they just fascinate me..I get excited as I search and gather each piece in my bag...and wonder just where they will fit in the puzzle... The Driftwood puzzle...which is what my mirrors have become... I have attached my 3rd mirror I have finished..... this one is large and bold and strong..unlike my other 2.. this one has the energy of a stormy sea...they each have thier own look and feel when I am done, thats the fun part of making these !...I never know what it will be.......it just evolves.

It took weeks to finish.......Now I start again....collecting and putting together my next Driftwood puzzle! Have a Great day!

Absolutely beautiful and a work of art.....isn't that the way the creative process works though.....bouncing from one project to another until they are all eventually completed. I know of no other way to create :)xojana

You're an artist, honey, this is how the process works! Complete and wonderful chaos :)

Your driftwood mirrors are so dreamy and magical. Every home they're in knows this...

Hi Marlene,
I am taking a quick break before I get bak to work on some signs I am finishing up on the already prepped piece's of wood.

So here I am reading your latest post and I am intrigued with your frames. I think an empty on without the mirror hanging on the wall long ways and then some art plates of seaside shells or oyster plates would look great inside the frame. Maybe some small pieces of art!

Also without the mirror and a great piece of water colored art of the ocean glass of course covering the art. One thing you need the art. Start treasure hunting for ocean art then make the frames to fit :)

The mirrors framed are GREAT though! so why ruin a great thing you've got going on :)

Oooooooooh! Marlene can you make me a driftwood raft so I can sail on over to you on it?

See you soon girl.
PS. If I lived closer to you I am sure you would be making me a frame.

Save some driftwood for me. I use it in my jewelry. Love your mirror. I'm on Esty now, check out my shabby chic photo.

I can picture you on the beach, in search for the driftwood. It feels like a treasure hunt! And now you have become the midwife to these pieces of history, giving them a new life, a second chance.
Mirrors in themselves are fascinating. Do they tell the truth or are they about illusion?
either way - your work of art is filled with special energies...from the sea, the land, the wind and the sun...all wrapped up beautifully by your magical hands!

Hi girl what are you doing up late? that's great I love late night visits with great company like you! How did Gwynnie and your show go this past week! I hope it was a blast!

Thank you for your comment, yes the littel bird picture is a book page that I cut out sayings and pasted it on the book page of the bird. Then I painted a little jewel box drawer and glued the book page bird into the drawer and hammered tooth hanger on the back side. Funny though it has a hanger on the back I have yet to hang it. I end up just placing it here and there.

Thank you Marlene for noticing though :)
and of course you would, you have that soulfulness about you, and the things that inspire you as I would notice the little things you do!
See you soon girl

I recently spent some time on a driftwood-strewn beach. Here in Florida, we don't have that, so it's so amazing when I see it other places. I love the twisted forms, and how smooth they are. Just beautiful.
